“Reality exists in the human mind and nowhere else.”
Orwellian is an unapologetically political exploration of censorship, surveillance, ideological control, and the struggle over who gets to define reality. At the center of the composition is an American bald eagle, set against trans and “groomer” flag colors. The imagery represents the artist’s explicit opposition to transgender ideology being introduced, affirmed, or encouraged in children. The artist views this practice as a form of grooming and considers the protection of children from what they regard as ideological influence to be a central concern.
The bald eagle, traditionally associated with American freedom and national identity, has been aggressively covered with black paint. The censorship is intentionally crude and incomplete. Portions of the eagle remain visible beneath the black paint, creating a visual statement about attempts to erase, suppress, or conceal ideas rather than actually eliminating them. Surrounding the composition are security cameras, transforming the painting into an environment of constant observation. Their presence speaks to the artist's concerns about surveillance, social pressure, censorship, and the growing power of institutions to determine what can be publicly expressed.
The statement “Reality exists in the human mind and nowhere else” anchors the work. In the context of the painting, it becomes a challenge to the viewer:
Who gets to decide what reality is?
Orwellian does not attempt to present itself as politically neutral. It is an expression of the artist's own beliefs about censorship, freedom of thought, the influence of ideology on children, and the power structures that shape public perception. The black paint does not completely hide the eagle. The cameras do not stop watching. And the question remains visible beneath everything:
If someone else gets to decide what you are allowed to see, are you still free to decide what you believe?
